The School of Gifted Minds wants to wish all students all growth, mastery, and success coming into the ever so soon 2023-24 school year. As students are entering their first quarter of the school year, we felt we should give you parents–as a thank you–a little something for back to school as you and your child prepare for a successful school year.

Your First 30 Days Checklist!
Be sure to set aside time to set goals with your child.
Writing down academic and personal goals each month allows your child to understand where they want to be! Don’t forget, always allow your child to share their goals first so you can collaborate together.
Schedule conferences with your child's teacher.
Either in-person or remote, it’s crucial to hear first hand what their teachers have to say. Linked here is a list of great starter questions to ask at a conference to print out for that first meeting!
Join the Parent Teacher Association or sign up to volunteer at the school.
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is the bridge between families, students, teachers, and administrator’s who are committed to the academic achievements of students and encourage family involvement. If offered at the school, volunteering opportunities are also available such as aiding in special classroom activities or school events to keep yourself involved in your child's experience!
Read with your child for 15-30 minutes each day.
Even for a short period each day, reading is one of the greatest factors in childhood language development. The local public library, GetEpic.com, ReadWorks.com, and Amazon.com are great places to begin finding their new favorite book or helping strengthen their overall literacy skills.
Use a planner or other organizational tools.
Teaching your child how to utilize a planner can help support a weekly routine. Writing down their homework, projects, tests and quizzes, and extracurriculars can help them develop executive function skills and independence and keep them on track!
Have check-ins with your child.
Let your child reflect on their accomplished goals, current goals, or even future goals! Never forget to celebrate who they are and little (or big!) steps they have made. If they are having trouble reaching their goals, don’t be afraid to communicate, communicate with their teachers, analyze their progress and their needs, and develop an action plan!
Aim to ensure you and your child have a strong relationship with their teacher this year! Advocate for your child. Be there as much as possible. Ask the right questions. Do your research! Congratulations on beginning a new school year! We are praying for your child’s success.
